“there… in the sunlight.” is a project heading for my independent choreography. I describe it as a moving autobiography, a platform to express my connection, respect and response to movement, music, and thought. It is the place where I challenge myself as a choreographer to honestly articulate my personal experience. At times it looks like a dance company, but mostly it’s a place to reflect, a place to move from the inside out, revealing what is truly understood, known, and felt.

“Too long silenced, Stronks sometimes tries to say too much, but his shockingly original choreography speaks a burning vitality into the peace he seems to be finding.”

“The dancers from "there ... in the sunlight," mix African roundness with balletic lines .... They embrace their past, their present community, their communal space, and still all add movement only their own bodies could accomplish.”

GOING FOR A WALK NOW

There’s a part of me,
with acid,
that heals the sound.
My body feels the pressure
of the
Facilities management.

I could tell you...
there in the sunlight
with flowers and stems
the petals are lost...
they are lost.

Here in acid sounds,
fields where stems are found,
there’s a part of me
there...
in the sunlight,
with flowers and stems
